Stay Motivated While Training From Home
Perform24 was closed on March 20th, 2020. Along with every other gym in the state of Florida.
And with almost every gym in the United States.
And with almost every gym on planet Earth.
With gyms closed, we’re all training from home. Which is great for a whole bunch of reasons.
It’s convenient. No commute.
You may not have to shower after you train.
You can play your own music.
You don’t have to share equipment
You can fit the training into your schedule. No matter how “busy” you are.
But, with all of the perceived benefits, it’s also difficult to train at home. When you’re at home it’s easy to get distracted. It’s easy to blow off an exercise or skip a set because there’s nobody to hold you accountable. And, it’s easy to procrastinate your training (I’ll do it tomorrow) and miss it completely.
Here are four ways to stay motived and to stay training hard while you’re at home.
Follow a Program.
Now is not the time to try and make up a workout on the fly.
Social distancing has already wrecked our routines. Any area of your life that you can nail down and avoid adjustments the better. If you have a clear mission for your training session, you're less likely to skip and you're more likely to lock in and actually make progress.
Find a program. Follow it.
Have a Dedicated Training Space.
There's a strong correlation between physical space and head space. Train in the same location. When you enter that location your brain will know it's Gametime!
Good gyms can excite you. The culture should be contagious. You’ve got to recreate that emotion.
Use your garage, your back yard, or a spare bedroom. If you don’t have that kind of extra space at your disposal, keep all of your training equipment in the same area. When you get it out, you know it’s time to dial in.
Warm Up.
If your program doesn't have a good warm-up (I would argue that it’s not a good program if it doesn’t have a good warm-up), you need to make sure to create one for yourself.
Similar to your training space, when your body starts to go through your warm-up movements it's going to know to Turn Up!
Your warm-up can be as simple as a quick foam roll, a mobility series, or a jog around the block. Regardless, this is going to get your training started off on the right foot. Use that momentum to carry you through the session.
Explore New Training Priorities.
Your typical training style may be disrupted.
Also, you may not have the equipment you typically train with.
With this in mind, now may be a good time to work on areas of your physical abilities that you have historically ignored. Your home training phases may be a good time to really lock in on your conditioning or the mobility limitations that you've habitually neglected.

Please don’t take your time at home as a vacation. Our physical health, our metabolic capacity, and our immune systems have been significantly magnified the last couple months. It’s as important as ever to put our health as a top priority.
It’s up to YOU to control your health. It’s one of the FEW things we have full authority over right now.
If you need a jump start, please browse our Exercise Vault on YouTube. We’ve got hundreds of exercise demos for you to watch and use in your own training routines.
Be safe. Be strong.
