Meet Dr. Delanie Shea, Chiropractor and owner of, Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness in South Tampa! Let’s dive into our interview with Dr. Delanie and find out what Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness is, who they serve, and what makes them special!
Let's start by getting to know you better. Share your journey - where are you from and how you ended up in Tampa?
I am originally from Milford, Pennsylvania, a small town nestled in the beautiful Poconos region. With just one stop light, it had that charming small-town feel. After completing my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science, I knew pursuing a career in Chiropractic was my calling. While deciding on the best school, there was no doubt in my mind - Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, FL was where I wanted to be. Two weeks after graduation, I packed my bags and headed to the sunshine state with excitement and determination.
Fast forward a few years and it was time to embark on the next chapter - where to do our internship. My fiancé, being from Philadelphia, was starting to miss the city vibe, so we decided to give Tampa a try. Little did we know, this decision would shape our future. And now, looking back, I can confidently say that choosing Tampa was the best move we ever made. The energy, opportunities, and sense of community we found here has truly become our home.
What made you pursue a career as a chiropractor? What was the driving force behind your decision?
I always had a deep desire to help people, initially as a social worker during my undergraduate studies. However, the sadness I encountered in that field led me to question my path. It was during this time that my stepdad introduced me to the world of CrossFit through his gym, and I instantly fell in love with exercise. Inspired by this newfound passion, I made a significant shift in my academic focus, transitioning to exercise science. This change allowed me to continue helping others, but in a different setting - one that involved promoting wellness through physical activity. As I delved deeper into my studies, I discovered the incredible impact that chiropractic care can have on individuals. It was then that I realized pursuing a career as a chiropractor perfectly aligned with my desire to make a meaningful difference in people lives.
Can you give us the background of Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness? Where did it start and how did it grow?
Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness began as a visionary class project initiated by myself and my fiancé. Our shared passion for holistic health and our dream of opening our own practice inspired us to create the concept, devise a comprehensive business plan, and outline a range of services while we were still in school.
Following our graduation, we made the deliberate choice to gain valuable experience by working in other chiropractic offices. This allowed us to further deepen our knowledge and refine our skills, in preparation for the eventual realization of our vision - Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness.
Once we felt confident and equipped with the necessary expertise, we took the leap and officially opened Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness. This step marked the culmination of our journey, where we now proudly offer our unique and holistic approach to improving health and well-being.

Additionally, we take pride in being certified in the Webster technique, a specialized chiropractic technique that is specifically designed for use during pregnancy. Does Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness use any equipment that is unique in the Chiropractic space?
Back Bay specializes in a range of cutting-edge equipment, including the revolutionary Shockwave machine. Despite its intimidating name, this non-invasive therapy utilizes high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing and alleviate pain in musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions. By triggering a targeted response in the body, these sound waves promote tissue repair and reduce pain. This technology is frequently employed to treat a variety of chronic pain conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, and even golfers’ elbow and tennis elbow.
Let’s debunk some common misconceptions about chiropractic care. What are the most prevalent misunderstandings that people have, and how do you try to set the record straight?
There are a couple of common misconceptions about chiropractic care that we like to debunk. One of them is the belief that chiropractic care is solely for back or neck pain. While it’s true that chiropractic can effectively address these issues, its benefits extend far beyond. Chiropractic care can also help with conditions like headaches, sports injuries, and even improving overall health and wellbeing.
Another misconception is that once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to continue indefinitely. At our practice, we emphasize the importance of making chiropractic care part of your overall health routine. However, the length and frequency of treatment vary based on several factors such as your specific condition, lifestyle, and personal health goals. Some patients choose to continue their visits to maintain optimal health, while others find relief after just a few sessions.
It’s crucial to set the record straight on these common misunderstandings about chiropractic care. Our goal is to provide you with accurate information and help you make informed decisions about your health and wellness.
The Chiropractic space is evolving quickly. How has Back Bay Chiropractic & Wellness evolved since you’ve started?
Back Bay has seen tremendous growth and evolution since we began our journey in the chiropractic space. One notable achievement is that Dr. Randy Middleman, obtained a level 2 certification on the Shockwave machine by attending training in Chicago. This makes him one of the few chiropractors in the area with such advanced expertise in utilizing this innovative technology. Additionally, both Dr. Randy and I have acquired certifications in Acupuncture, enabling us to provide acupuncture and dry needling services to our valued patients. I am also certified in the Webster technique designed to be used during pregnancy. We believe that staying at the forefront of these advancements allows us to better serve our community and deliver optimal care.
